GAINESVILLE, GEORGIA
Gainesville Renaissance is a premier mixed-use project designed to revitalize downtown Gainesville. Renaissance (or re-birth) was the concept behind the design. The building is 3 floors of approximately 20,000 sf each with retail on the first floor, offices on the second floor and hi-end condos including a penthouse condo on the third floor.
The façade emulates traditional detailing paying homage to the square that has been the activity hub since the 1900’s. The Retail floor boasts two restaurants, boutique clothing stores, coffee and ice cream shops and a radio station. The second Floor is the Brenau School of Clinical Phycology with classrooms, offices and a large conference room which overlooks the square. Each condo has a private balcony and a common amenities deck with a pedestrian bridge from an adjacent parking deck.
The two-year build of the shell building that started September 2020 had many challenges. Building a pedestrian bridge to the third floor from an existing parking deck, lifting a 25’ tall cupola in place in a tight downtown site all while managing supply chain issues brought out by Covid. Steel had to be brought in 3 phases due to the long lead times.
Extensive exterior lighting design was implemented to enhance the intricate detailing of the façade. A park was designed adjacent to the building to further enhance the surroundings and connect to other areas of downtown Gainesville.
The building and the park has activated the square and proves to be an asset for the entire community.
